European Federation of Immunological Societies

The European Federation of Immunological Societies (EFIS) is a non-profit umbrella organization that represents 33 immunology societies from all across Europe, and even beyond the borders to Israel. Every active member of any of our member societies is automatically considered an EFIS member and can as such benefit from our programs. EFIS thus acts as organization uniting more than 14,000 individual immunologists.

The main goals of EFIS are the support of immunological research and education as well as strengthening scientific interaction amongst our members. We especially focus on supporting young scientists, e.g., through fellowships or travel grants. For more info, browse the pages dedicated to EFIS-EJI Meeting Support, EFIS-IL Short-term Fellowships, Travel Grants and Awards.

The EFIS was founded at a meeting held in Amsterdam in September 1975. In the beginning, the legal body of this society was the International Union of Immunological Societies (IUIS). During a meeting held in Helsinki in 1991, it was decided to incorporate the articles in a notarial deed, and on April 5th, 1995, EFIS was formally registered as an independent legal body c/o the Utrecht (NL) Chamber of Commerce.
